Henry David Thoreau was a well-known writer who lived in the woods! He also wrote about "non-violent civil protest" and was said to have influenced people like Gandhi in India. Some--or should I say most?--parties in the police project have taken some lessons from Thoreau.
[Their plans have been meant to be "non-violent" but it remains to be seen yet how we'll get through everything.--It also depends on what a definition of non-violent is! Anyway, they were aiming at being non-violent.]
