Rock Cuts--3

Here's the third photo. It's kind
of unusual the way the snow and
ice are melting!--Haven't often
seen scenes like that, although
I haven't really travelled in
this particular area much. [Guess
it depends on the weather and
the amount of snow and ice, etc.]

Rock Cuts--2

This photo shows a better view of what the normal rock cuts usually look like at the side of
the road, even though the road isn't showing here.

Rock Cuts--1

Here's a picture of some "rock cuts"
on a roadside. In southern Ontario
we refer to this area as the north
but it's actually "cottage country,"
I'd say. When you travel a little
further north, it's the "near north."
And when you travel still further,
it's the "far north" and northwestern
Ontario. [Maybe the area in the
photo is the northern part of
southern Ontario!?--That's how I
see it sometimes!]

The rock pictures I'll post here
were all taken in late winter last
year. [My photos.]

Extreme Features!?

When I first saw the scene above--with rocks and wildflowers--it made me think of the differences between males and females. And I was thinking of it in a positive way--females are more delicate; and males are more strong and stable. Of course we can't generalize but it was an impression I had, at the time. Others have since pointed out the above photos could represent extremes also.--And it's not desirable for females to be too weak, or for males to be too harsh! [Right?] Okay, well just some comments on art and photography!

Another Church Photo

Here is a photo I took from another church. It's a side door, of course.

Land and Water

It's not exactly a sand beach! But this photo reminds me of a line in a hymn, "...of rocks and trees, of skies and seas...." When I lived in northern Ontario, I used to think of the same hymn. It was common to see what we called "rock cuts" along the highway. That's where they blasted through small, rocky hills to make the roads smoother. There were also a lot of lakes and rivers there--and the nature was peaceful, with a lot of trees!

[This was a photo I took in southeastern Ontario when I lived there.]

Some Have Sacrificed It All!

Here is a photo I took at a church, a long time ago. At the bottom of the plaque dedicated to fallen soldiers, it reads, "GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS." This phrase is taken from a Bible verse which says, "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13.

If some people have died for our freedom, how much more should we live to make their sacrifices worthwhile?
[A war memorial in another location included a poem to this effect.--It said something like, Don't be sad!--Live!]

NOTE, March 5, 2011 -- Would like to include this photo under my "Canadian Police" Label, especially because of the two RCMP officers who were killed in the earthquake in Haiti last year.
